For the upper New Balance relies on a familiar mix of mesh and shiny synthetic leather overlays. Technical highlights of the Runner are the characteristic NLock system and the striking heel counter. The M1906R is equipped with an N-ergy outsole, ACTEVA LITE midsole and ABZORB SBS cushioning and shares the sole unit with the no less popular 2002R and 860 V2.
